variety of tires sitting on a shelf

Tires are what keeps your vehicle rolling, literally. Many people have found that shopping for tires is overwhelming because there are just so many choices. At Harold's Used Auto Parts Inc, we want to break it down for you so that it's easier to understand. There are four main categories of tires, and the right ones for you will depend on the kind of driving you do. Let's talk more about that!

Summer Tires - Summer tires are great if you’re looking for maximum summertime performance. The rubber is softer to help you stick to the road in fast corners. The tread on summer tires has wide blocks at the shoulder to stiffen the tire in turns. The tread design can also handle rain but really isn’t set up for snow and ice.

Winter Tires - If you still like performance driving when it’s cold and slippery out, you need a tread design that’ll really bite into ice and snow. That's where winter tires come into play. The rubber compound is formulated to stay pliable when temperatures drop below 45 degrees so you get great traction even on dry roads. On the other end of the winter tire spectrum are tires designed to handle severe ice and snow conditions.

All-Season Tires - Now, most new cars come with all-season tires. The idea is a tire that you can use all-year-round. Naturally, the tread design and rubber compound is a compromise that won’t give you the extreme capabilities of summer or winter tires, but if your driving and weather conditions aren’t at the extreme ends of the spectrum, all-season tires might suit you just fine. All-Season tires are ideal if you live in climates with mild winters.

All-Terrain Tires -  If you're on the hunt for tires designed for both freeway and off-road use, then you may want to invest in some all-terrain tires. These tires get good traction in the dirt and are tough enough for rocks and ruts. They also perform well on the road!

Regardless of if you swap your tires out for a season or not, it's important to check that your tires are in good shape. Be sure that you're rotating them at recommended intervals and keeping an eye on your tread. Here at Harold's Used Auto Parts Inc, we want to keep you safely on the road and you keeping a watchful eye on your tire quality is a great way to do that.
